Our Studio Policies

Why Do We Hold Policies?

Really the bigger question is, why wouldn't we?? When I first started KP Fitness I had much more relaxed policies- we started class when everyone got there, we let people in late(!!!), there were no late cancellation/no show fees. So what changed? I realized that having no boundaries was exhausting and

mentally draining. I was a one person show at the time and when it came time to hire others I knew we needed to make changes. Was it hard? Of course. I was now in charge of being the "bad guy" when upholding people to the commitments they made! There were numerous times I left the studio crying... but I upheld my new boundary/policy & that's what was the more important.

Why We Lock The Door

We're in our newest location, a busy street property. We lock the doors at the beginning of class for the pure safety of those in attendance. We want you (& your things) to feel safe so that you can spend the 30-60minutes focusing on you & your health. We hold the policy of starting & ending class on time because we know your time is valuable. You might have gotten a babysitter for this class, maybe you took an early lunch & need to get back to work- you were expecting class to be from X to X timeframe, not Y to XY! We advertise that doors open 15 minutes before the start of class, we ask that you come at least 5-10 minutes before class so that you have plenty of time to get settled in, get the props you need, & breathe! No one likes the feeling of being rushed to a yoga class.... give yourself extra time to breathe.

Late Cancellation/No Show Policy

There's something to be said about the fact that you made the commitment to be at class on time & maybe you attempted to come, but traffic happened & the door was locked when you got there or a kid woke up sick.... To quote our friends at Kula in Grand Rapids: "We understand & have compassion that last minute challenges arise & may keep you from making it to class, which is why you're welcome to Early Cancel up until the minute before class starts". We understand that life happens, we do, BUT you made the commitment to be there, taking that spot away from the possibility of another student. And that makes a big difference when classes are held at a smaller capacity.

Some studios (Kula for example) have different "levels of fees"- early cancel vs no shows. And although we aren't there yet the thought to start doing that is always there (example early cancel $10 fee, simply not showing up $15). You don't make an appointment with you dentist, your doctor, your nail girl & not show up.....

Phones In The Studio

This one is simple- you're in a bootcamp class, Morgan just made you do the 100th burpee of the night & now you're doing squat jacks... you accidently jump on your phone & absolutely smash the screen.... if only you had followed the no phones in the main room policy your phone would be safe. You're in the best restorative yoga class you've ever taken with Baylee, you just had the most stressful day of your life, your phone is next to you, the room is so quiet and suddenly someone calls you or an alarm goes off... now your mind is back to having the worst day ever because you just ruined the whole vibe of the class by not following the no phones in the main room policy. You're experiencing your first Thai Massage, you're enjoying counting the number of times you hear Tye'Ya say "woo" in class & then suddenly a phone goes off in the hallway!!!! The whole mood is ruined from that noise. All because someone else didn't turn their phone to silent....

Please... for yourself, the person next to you, the instructor teaching the class, keep your phones out of the main room. Keep them turned to silent. Maybe... &this is crazy.... don't even bring them into the studio at all!!! Give yourself the 30-60 minutes to focus on just YOU!

All of this to say. We love having you in class... we truly want you there! We also want to be able to uphold our policies to help keep everyone safe, to stay consistent, & to help you become the best version of YOU!

Until next time
